Although several e-Commerce solutions are available for Joomla, none of them seem to meet the powerful features of the open source Magento eCommerce Platform.
As a rule of thumb, I would advise you to use a software solution for what it is intended to. Go Joomla if you want to create and maintain a web site with ease, go Magento in case you need a fully fledged webshop. And here is exactly where issues may arise: you might need a shopping cart solution in Joomla or you may need additional content management features in a Magento store. Here is where MageBridge comes in!
For most of us, our websites are a key element to our business. Either being the business itself, or acting as the storefront to the Internet, they provide a significant added value. The last thing any web site owner want is to see their site defaced, damaged or even lost. Dangers lurk everywhere. From a simple human error in site administration to malicious activity and from hardware failure to natural disasters, no web server is the bulletproof vault we’d like it to be.
While nobody expects a catastrophe to hit his site, a good deal of precaution is required. It’s pretty much the same rationale as in wearing a seatbelt while driving; you don’t expect to crash, but if you do you most certainly want to evade the incident unharmed. The web site equivalent to a safety belt is none other than backup.
Our partner RocketTheme launched a dedicated website for the Gantry Framework, "a comprehensive set of building blocks to enable the rapid development and realization of a design into a flexible and powerful Joomla template".
Gantry was born when the RocketTheme development team wanted to consolidate their custom Joomla template functionality into a simple, easy to use framework. They built Gantry to provide a new layer on top of the traditional module configuration to give additional control and flexibility.
Did you install a whole series of (free) Joomla extensions? Don't!
Limit the number of extensions you install.
Keep an eye on your requirements and install only extensions you really need! The more you install, the more likely your site is to be compromised.
Uninstall any extension you are not using. Check the directory of your Joomla install and remove any remaining files from your server after you have uninstalled your unused extensions.
