Delete Unused Joomla Extensions From Your CMS

Did you install a whole series of (free) Joomla extensions? Don't!
Limit the number of extensions you install.

Keep an eye on your requirements and install only extensions you really need! The more you install, the more likely your site is to be compromised.

Uninstall any extension you are not using. Check the directory of your Joomla install and remove any remaining files from your server after you have uninstalled your unused extensions.

If you are not familiar with FTP, you may need to follow these steps:

Contact your hosting provider and ask if FTP access is included in your hosting plan.
If not, ask for it! Your will need FTP access details for your web site, which will look like this:
FTP Host: ftp.yourdomain.com
FTP Username: account [at] yourdomain.com
FTP Password: well, you know
Use dedicated FTP client software like FileZilla, a free FTP solution. Filezilla is available for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux and can be downloaded for free from their web site. By the way: for Mac OS X you may like Cyberduck.

Play around with Joomla as much as you can, but keep in mind that as soon as your web site becomes business critical to you, your client or your company, you should take measures to safeguard it.
