Form follows function
Starting as Louis Sullivan's assistant, Frank Lloyd Wright adopted and professed Sullivan's 'form follows function'- principle. The full quote of this wisdom is:
- It is the pervading law of all things organic and inorganic,
- Of all things physical and metaphysical,
- Of all things human and all things super-human,
- Of all true manifestations of the head,
- Of the heart
- Of the soul,
- That the life is recognizable in its expression,
- That form ever follows function. This is the law.
Does Joomla stick to the law?
For a website, form follows function is not enough. In an online environment, form function and content should achieve your goals.
You need an extra lens.
-
Joomla has extensive functionality out-of-the-box. Its core can grow by using of its thousands so-called extensions. - Joomla can help attract your visitors with an appealing Look & Feel. A template will keep your complete website in a modern layout in different browsers. Using features like "template overrides" enables you to change the system's output without having to hack the core code of the system.
- When online, content is still 'King'. Not only for your visitors, but it's essential for your page rank at search engines like Google and Yahoo. As a state of the art Content Management System, Joomla does its job very well. A beginning user with no programming knowledge or technical skills is able to set up and change articles and menus in a breeze.
Depending upon your goals, Joomla can handle your corporate website, blog, online shop, intranet, extranet and community- or school-website in a fantastic way. Just have a look at the recently-launched Joomla Community Showcase to get an idea of its potential.
Get inspired during the CMS Expo in Chicago.
By 1901, Wright had completed about 50 projects, including many houses in Oak Park, Chicago, IL. As a sponsor of the CMS Expo last year, we had the opportunity to do a walking tour through Oak Park just after the Expo.
When you decide to join us at the upcoming CMS Expo, April 30 and May 1, this year, take a two-hour break and go to Oak Park! It's amazing, especially in spring. You can get an iPod-Guided Tour from the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust, situated right in the center of Oak Park. And if Oak Park does not inspire you, the speakers at CMS Expo most certainly will!
